This is from the October 2007 World Report 600 people from 17 countries met in Salt Lake City for the 27th annual Conference of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. “With the closeness of the Family History Library, and their thousands and thousands of rolls of film on Jewish records from Europe, we thought that this is a venue where people would come to lectures, but would spend a lot of time at the library.” –Michael Brenner, Vice President The Family History Library and the Association began planning more than 2 years ago to find resources that would best serve conference attendees. Do You Ever Wonder Who Your Ancestors Were And Where You Came From? Your Family’s Ancestors Could Have Come From All Over The World.

When you want to know more about your ancestors, then building a family tree is a great way to get those answers.

I am fortunate that I have more than one relative who is fascinated by genealogy. Some of my aunts have been studying public records and building our family tree for several decades now. Thanks to all of their hard work I can look back over many generations of my predecessors to see where my family came from and how they came to be in North America.

Birth, Marriage & Death Records

There are many public records available to you that can help you begin to build your family tree. Searching through birth, death, and marriage records are a great place to start your quest. You may even think about trying one of the many web sites online that can help you build your family tree. Ancestry.com is one of the most popular sites for this particular purpose. An added bonus of using these online genealogy websites is that you may be surprised to find out that somebody else is already out there building your genealogy tree for you!

A family history web site like Ancestry.com are used by millions of people trying to build their own personal family tree. They also contain an endless amount of records such as birth, marriage and death records that you can search through to see if your ancestors are included. You may even be lucky enough to find a detailed family tree out there, already completed, with your name on it.

Another option that you have at Ancestry.com is that you can even have DNA ancestry testing done that can help you find genetic cousins and expand your family tree.  Their paternal and maternal DNA lineage tests will provide you with your ancient ancestry  and your own collection of personal genetic markers which can be used to connect with genetic cousins.

Just knowing who you are and where you came from can be an amazing gift. Many people simply do not know who their ancestors are and are unable to put together a complete ancestral history for themselves. Knowing where your family came from and where their ancestors lived before can open up a whole new world for you.

We are fortunate to live in an amazing age of technology in which so much information is readily available for our use. Hopefully, we can take advantage of this fact and use it to gain a better sense of who we really are.
